Lamont Williams, Property Clerk, joined Kittrell Job Corps Center on August 8, 2016. Mr. Williams is a Vance County native. He bring over 15 years of experience in Customer Services and Inventory Control. He served four years in the US Navy. Mr. Williams looks forward to working with Kittrell Job Corps Center staff and students to provide quality service and exceptional customer service. Kittrell JCC’s FM Students Receive Riding Lawn Mower Training
Career Technical Training Trade Facility Maintenance students receive training on how to operate a Zero Turn Riding Lawn Mower. Luby Coley, Facility Maintenance Instructor, provided his students tips how to cutgrass with a riding lawn mower and lawn mower safety. The cones were arranged and staged as though they were people and parked cars. Students will mow large lawns around campus. “ It was quite an experience riding that zero riding mower for the first time and before my peers,” said Ashley Resto Facility Maintenance student.

MGM Products Provides Employment Opportunities
On August 16, 2016, Matt Jenkins, Director of Operations-MGM Products, visited the center and met with Diane Fisher, CTR Coordinator, Shameka Staley, CTT Manager, Joan Robinson, BCL Director, and NC CTS, Michelle Johnson and Chastity Cotton. During the meeting, Mr. Jenkins shared the history of MGM Products and their employment needs for their October 1st opening of their manufacturing facility in Henderson, NC. After meeting with center staff, Mr. Jenkins spoke to students in the Facilities Maintenance and Bricklaying Trades. He shared with the students what he is looking for in employees. He is currently recruiting for Welders, Machine Operators and General Laborers. Mr. Jenkins shared his role in the company. The students were very interested in the information that Mr. Jenkins shared and asked some great questions about the company and employment opportunities.
Kittrell is very excited about this partnership opportunity for center students.
Kittrell Job Corps Center Hosts Moccasin Day for Students
As part of the IGR Leadership Month, Kittrell Job Corps Center hosted a Moccasin “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” Day Activity. Students that wanted to participate in this fun unique activity had to submit an application to shadow a selected staff member of their choice into Mrs. Terry, PLC Coordinator.
Students were excited about a day where they could take advantage of an opportunity to walk a day in the shoes of a staff member whose job and life will help the student better understand the staff members interactions, challenges, the thought process behind decisions and everyday practices that occur on center. This project challenged students to observe, interview and practice various skills and techniques. A total of 26 students and staff participated.
Kittrell Job Corps’ Students Support National Night Out Against Crime Community Event
Kittrell Job Corps Center students volunteered to assist the Henderson Police and Sheriff Department with its National Night Out Against Crime event on August 11th. They provided a table display sharing program information and resources available to recruit potential applicants. The students also served free drinks and popcorn to over 200 citizens who patronized the event. National Night Out is where law enforcement agencies and other organizations come out to build relationships, enhance the morale and culture with residents of Henderson and fight against crime together. Kittrell students met Henderson Mayor, Eddie Ellington, and Sheriff Peter White and interacted with law enforcement and firefighters.
TRIO EOC/Piedmont Community College Host Career Development Workshop
On August 12, 2016 The Education Opportunity Center/Piedmont Community College Outreach Counselor, Angela Bullock and Dr. Alfred Faulkner facilitated a career development workshop with the Career Preparation Period Week #3 and the Career Transition Readiness students. This workshop was coordinated by the Business Community Liaison Director (BCL), Career Transition Readiness Coordinator (CTR) and the Career Preparation Period CPP Week #3 Instructor.

Kittrell Job Corps Center Supports Loaves and Fishes
On March 8th, Kittrell Job Corps Center CTR/WBL Coordinator along with its Community Relations Council member, joined the community to prepare and distribute food boxes for low income families at Loaves and Fishes. Over 200 families benefited from this event.
Kittrell JCC Women’s Empowerment Event
The Culmination of Women’s Recognition Month was an all day event for all female students Thursday, March 31, 2022. Student made vision boards, listened to inspirational video presentation, played informational games and participated in a skin care presentation. They also enjoyed a fantastic lunch and dinner as well as raffle prizes. On this day staff came together to show our female students the power of empowerment and self-worth.
Kittrell JCC Celebrate Earth Day
On April 23, 2022, Kittrell Job Corps Center joined the community to assist the City of Henderson City with its 2022 Community-wide Spring Litter Sweep/Earth Day event in Henderson. Kittrell Job Corps Center CTR/WBL Coordinator, Joan Robinson, students, and community volunteers cleaned up litter alongside Henderson highways, and placed the bags on the roadside that was picked up by North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The participants including Kittrell Job Corps Center, were the City of Henderson Police Department, Henderson-Vance County Fire Department, Vance County Parks & Recreation Department, Faith-based Community, and Local Schools.

Kittrell JCC Supports Henderson Optimist Club Fundraiser
May 2, 2022, Kittrell JCC joined the community to assist the Henderson Optimist Club with its Annual 220 Seafood Fundraiser. Joan Robinson, CTR/WBL joined other volunteers to prepare plates for distribution through the drive-thru and deliveries. There were more than 600 tickets sold at $8.00. All proceeds will benefit the clubs Youth and varies community projects in Vance County in the Tri-County area.

Kittrell JCC Staff UNC-Chapel Hill Invite
May 14, 2022, Joan Robinson, CTR/WBL Coordinator was invited and attended the UNC-Chapel Hill Ceremony honoring Mrs. Hortense McClinton (103 year old), first black professor at UNC-Chapel Hill. The honor was the re-naming Residential Hall (formerly Aycock) in her name. During the ceremony, Robinson had the privilege of introducing some important guest to Kittrell JCC programs.

On May 16, 2022, Kittrell Job Corps Center Staff joined the community to prepare lunch and distributed meals to low income families. As a result of this event over 200 families were served.
Kittrell JCC First 2022 Armed Services Day featuring the U.S Army
Army Recruiters Sgt. David Castro and Sgt. Joshua Parker along with the SPS cadets hosted an amazing day that entailed an informative presentation of military enlistment and the great benefits of a military career. Staff and students together enjoyed an afternoon of a little PT exercise competitive fun. WBL Joan Robinson , FM Instructor Richard Alston and Reading Instructor Terrial Tomlin showed the students how easy it was to lift 150-200 lbs. deadweight without a drop of sweat. Security staff with SPS went a few rounds in a relay race and let’s just say both teams were winners that day. Several students had one on one conversations with the recruiters and signed Interested Cards which are now in follow up status with recruiters. When students were asked how much did they enjoy the event, they stated that the best part was watching staff have fun in competing with them.
Bravo to both the class of SPS and U.S Army for an outstanding day of working together to build future careers for our youth.

Kittrell JCC Staff Attends State of the City Address and Luncheon
On June 30, 2022, Kittrell Job Corps Center staff attended the State of the City of Henderson Address and Luncheon held at the Henderson Country Club. The event was sponsored by the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce with co-sponsor The Henderson Rotary Club of Henderson. During the State of the City Address, Kittrell was acknowledged along with other volunteers that participated in the City of Henderson Community Litter Sweep April 2022. Also, a picture was displayed with Kittrell Students and staff along with other volunteers. This event was an awesome networking opportunity for Kittrell staff to share some center highlights with elected officials and business partners. Kittrell staff in attendance were: Director Norman Turner, Program Director Jermaine Whitaker, Joan Robinson CTR/WBL Coordinator, Finance Director Jerry Branch, Human Resources Manager April Taylor, Natasha Williams Human Resources Coordinator, and Information Technology Robert Black.
